NASHVILLE, TN — After years of growing unease, conservative watchdogs have finally spoken the quiet part out loud: Russell Moore, former SBC prophet-turned-Christianity Today editor, may have gone a full decade without adequately praising Donald Trump.
The revelation emerged from a sprawling 9,000-word exposé published on Founders.org, where spiritual thoughtfluencer David Mitzenmacher detailed Moore’s downward trajectory—from “trusted theological lion” to “Trump-traitorous editorialist” who has failed to utter even a single “Make America Great Again” in print.
“This isn’t about politics,” insisted former Trump advisor and part-time eschatologist William Wolfe. “It’s about Scripture. And Scripture clearly teaches that if you can’t say something nice about Donald, you should say nothing at all. Moore chose something else. Something… woke.”
A Devastating Pattern of Praise Neglect
Analysts reviewing Moore’s public statements were stunned to discover that between 2015 and 2024, Moore praised Jesus approximately 1,200 times—but Trump exactly zero.
“That’s a concerning ratio,” said Megan Basham, investigative journalist and part-time purity culture memorabilia curator. “It suggests a theological drift away from the core tenets of American Christianity: Inerrancy, Complementarianism, and Whatever Trump Tweeted Last Week.”
In a leaked internal memo from the newly formed SBC Department of Political Piety, evaluators flagged Moore for repeated violations of the Evangelical Loyalty Checklist, including:
- ❌ Failure to compare Trump to Cyrus
- ❌ Publicly affirming the dignity of immigrants
- ❌ Using the term “sexual abuse victims” unironically
- ❌ Collaborating with David French without a chaperone
“Russell Moore’s refusal to acknowledge Trump’s divine placement on the Republican ticket has undermined the Gospel in profound ways,” said Basham, holding a red-letter edition of The Art of the Deal. “I don’t care how many orphans he tried to help—he never once called the President a ‘modern-day King David,’ and that’s a red flag.”
Moore, who has long advocated for character-based leadership, was unavailable for comment due to what sources close to him called “reading the Sermon on the Mount and trying not to scream.”
The Founders article stops just short of accusing Moore of full-blown heresy, but warns that his commitment to complexity is “confusing the laity.”
“Moore wants us to believe that we can both oppose abortion and think brown people are people,” said a concerned lay elder on condition of anonymity. “That’s not theological tension—that’s liberalism.”
In response, Founders Ministries has proposed a pathway to repentance:
- Publicly affirm Trump’s 2016, 2020, and (preemptively) 2028 victories as divinely ordained
- Recant all previous statements made in The New York Times
- End every CT article with “Let’s go Brandon” in Greek
If Moore complies, restoration may be possible. If not, sources say he will be referred to the SBC’s new Council on Evangelical Purity and Tone, chaired by a rotating cast of AM radio hosts.
